YOUR PHOTOS. YOUR MAC.
Privacy, plainly.
Updated October 2, 2026
FluxPaper is a Mac menu-bar utility that changes desktop wallpapers. It does not require a FluxPaper account or include advertising or app analytics software.
Your Photos library
If you choose My Photos or Mixed, FluxPaper asks macOS for permission to access your Photos library. It selects and processes photos locally. Your library and selected personal photos are not uploaded to FluxPaper’s photography service.
You can change or revoke Photos access in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos. If library access is unavailable, FluxPaper can fall back to Featured photography.
Photo analysis stays on your Mac
People detection, face detection, face blurring, smart framing, and available sensitive-content checks use Apple frameworks on your device. FluxPaper does not send images to an external service for these checks. These preferences apply when new wallpapers are selected.
Featured photography and network requests
Featured photos are fetched through the FluxPaper photography service at matrix.homelab.digital, with images and photographer avatars loaded from Unsplash. Network requests can expose ordinary technical information, such as your IP address, requested URL, screen orientation, and requested image quality, to the services receiving them.
Links to photographers, Unsplash, and the Mac App Store open their respective services, which have their own privacy practices. See Unsplash’s privacy policy and Apple’s privacy policy.
Wallpaper files and preferences
FluxPaper stores preferences on your Mac and saves working wallpaper files in its application-support folder. Files needed for your current wallpaper are retained; unused working files are cleaned up. The working wallpaper folder is excluded from backup. This cleanup affects FluxPaper’s working copies, not originals in your Photos library.
